"Students + Good Nutrition = Successful Learning"

"Objective:  To provide a source of nutrition to those students who are in need of a supplement to their daily diet"

We, at Blessington Store, are proud sponsors of the Food for Learning program at Tyendinaga Public School.  Through this program, students receive the nutrition they need to increase their ability to concentrate on learning.

In previous years, Blessington Store has held an anniversary event celebrating our years of service in this community.  Although the event was our way of thanking the community for their yearly support, we also used this opportunity to raise money and awareness of this program.

In 2002, through our BBQ and draw prizes, we raised $405.00

In 2003 we increased that amount to $602.00.  We sincerely thank all our sponsors for the donated prizes and our friends & staff for volunteering their time to this worthy cause.

In the 2004 school year, we tried a new approach.  Blessington Store, in conjunction with the Food for Learning committee, organized a fun filled evening of magic, comedy, and juggling.  The evening consisted of three international performers:  Evans & Evans Magic and Comedy, Madame Buskerfly, and juggling sensation Johnny Toronto.

Thanks to all of you who attended this evening, we raised an incredible $2133.00 for the Food for Learning program at Tyendinaga Public School.  The money was raised through the selling of an amazing 212 tickets and sales at our concession stand.  Thank you to all our sponsors, volunteers and all who attended this event.

In 2005  we enjoyed "Movie Days".  On Tuesday, November 15th the junior students of Tyendinaga Public School were treated to Madagascar on the big screen.  Over $600.00 was raised !  On the 29th, the senior students were treated to Sky High.  An  incredible $1040.00 was raised on that day !  Once again, a big "Thank You" to all our sponsors, volunteers, teachers, parents and students.

In 2006/2007, Bridget Sartoretto has elected to spend time volunteering at the school each week and working directly with the children.  Due to the success of last years "Movie Days", the children this year were treated to Over the Hedge and Cars.  "Movie Days" 2006  yielded an outstanding $1628.36.

We would sincerely like to thank all who volunteered their time.  A special "Thank You" to  Shelley Doyle, Program Coordinator for Tyendinaga Public School, who has been instrumental with this program for many many years.

If you wish to start a program at your local school, please call your local District School Board.

Once again, thank you for your support.
